Lázaro Bruzón Wins National Chess Championship

Cuban Grand Master Lázaro Bruzón (ELO 2615) has won, for the fifth time, the Cuban National Chess Championship that concluded Monday in Ciego de Avila. In his final game, Bruzón beat veteran GM Jesús Nogueiras (2570) taking the national championship for the second consecutive year. He now ties Nogueiras with five National Championships. Third place went to GM Omar Almeida (2538)

Cuban Grand Master Lázaro Bruzón (ELO 2615) has won, for the fifth time, the Cuban National Chess Championship that concluded Monday in Ciego de Avila.

In his final game, Bruzón beat veteran GM Jesús Nogueiras (2570) taking the national championship for the second consecutive year. He now is tied with Nogueiras each with five National Championships.

Third place went to GM Omar Almeida (2538) who beat out GM Yunieski Quesada (2565)./ Now all eyes on the island are focused on Cuban GM GM Leinier Domínguez (2712) who is battling out in one of the world’s premier international chess tournaments in Wijk aan Zee, Holland.
