Cuban GM Leinier Domínguez Has Four Straight Ties at International Chess Tournament

Spanish Chess Grand Master Alexei Shirov (ELO 2723) remains unbeaten at the Corus super tournament in the Dutch city of Wijk aan Zee, beating Dutch GM Jan Smeets (2657) on Tuesday and chalking up his fourth victory in four games.

Ukranian Vassily Ivanchuk (2749) also won his match against another local GM Loek van Wely (2641).

Ivanchuk now has 3 points and shares second place with Norwegian wiz kid Magnus Carlsen (2810) and American Hikaru Nakamura (2708).

Meanwhile, Cuban GM Leinier Domínguez (2712) has four ties and is tied for third with Russian Vladimir Kramnik (2788), Indian Viswanathan Anand (2790) and Ukrainian Sergey Karjakin (2720).

There are no matches on Wednesday and on Thursday Leinier will play black pieces against Italian Fabiano Caruana (2675) who knocked Leinier out of the last World Cup of Chess.

Caruana has 1.5 points and sits in fourth with Hungarian Peter Leko (2739) and Dutch Sergey Tiviakov (2662).
