PORT AU PRINCE, January 20.— The situation in Haiti continues to worsen with a deficit of donations and an even more serious distribution problems of those already received.
Aftershocks continue to rock the island nation including a 6.1 tremble that hit on Wednesday. Some 75,000 bodies have been found and the expected number of fatalities has risen to 200,000.
Meanwhile, in Bolivia, President Evo Morales announced that he will request an emergency meeting of the United Nations to reject the US military occupation of Haiti, reported Telesur.
“This is unbelievable that the US would use this natural tragedy to military invade and occupy Haiti...the deployment of US armed troops in Haiti using the excuse of the earthquake is opportunist, savage and inhumane,” said Morales.
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez also condemned US actions in Haiti, saying that the only possible interpretation of the role played by Washington is that they have “taken advantage of a humanitarian tragedy to military seize Haiti.
In the US, military sources announced that an additional 4,000 soldiers would be sent to join the 12,500 currently on the coast of Haiti or already deployed in the country.
International sources are complaining about the excessive force being used by the US military as if they were in a war zone, and that the militarization in Haiti is hindering aid services.
