Release of the Cuban Five Demanded in Ecuador

HAVANA, Cuba, June 3 (acn) The 5th Regional Conference of the International Women's Democratic Federation for Latin America and the Caribbean has demanded the release of five Cuban patriots unjustly incarcerated in the United States, in an open tribunal in Quito Ecuador Leaders from women's organizations in Venezuela, Paraguay, Colombia, Chile,Peru, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Ecuador demanded the immediate release from prison of Cuban anti-terrorists Gerardo Hernández, Fernando González, Ramón Labañino, René González and Antonio Guerrero.

Attending the activity was Fernando's mother, Magali Llort, who -on behalf of the relatives- thanked the Latin American women for their willingness to intensify actions in their respective countries in support of this cause, the Cuban Foreign Ministry's web site reports.

The president of the Ecuadorean Committee, Pro-Justice and Freedom for The Five, Hernán Rivadeneira, looked back to the arbitrary acts committed against these honourable men, who were monitoring the activities of Florida-based extremist groups just to prevent terrorist actions against Cuba.

He recalled that several Nobel Prize winners, heads of state, parliamentarians, lawmakers, intellectuals and international organizations are demanding a fair trial for these Cuban patriots.

Rivadeneira, who is also a prominent jurist, demanded the US Supreme Court accept the revision of this biased legal process.

The organizations making up the Ecuadorean Coordinating Committee for Friendship and Solidarity with Cuba will hold a march past the US embassy in Quito on June 10, to demand the release of the Cuban antiterrorist fighters and in support of Cuba.
