Cuban artists Carlos Parker and Marcos Peña are inaugurating a new joint exhibition of paintings at the Abel Santamaria in Havana on February 8.
The exhibition, Realismo de contraste, aims to showcase the majesty and beauty of life in the face of the ongoing destruction of our natural environment. It is a joint call to protect the environment and biodiversity, and to raise awareness.
Carlos Parker presents a series of abstract paintings with his customary unique style, while Marco Peña’s series of paintings tend to underline the idealism we dream of using the depths of the ocean as his palette.
During a press conference, both artists said that the constant destruction of our natural environment gives rise to the Realism of contrast. “The horrifying drama of survival is played daily in our oceans, air and land, and of all species including humankind.”
“The exhibition is for all those who love life, a space for reflecting on the differences between the real and the ideal,” the two artists told AIN.
Other artists featured at the exhibition are painter Víctor Moreno and Camila del Río, whose work draws attention to the terrible consequences of mankind’s action on the environment.
Realismo de contraste is a call from the world of art to do more in defense of our earth.
