Cuban piano virtuoso Chucho Valdés has won another Grammy this time in the category of Best Latin Jazz Album during the 16th Grammy Awards held in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Chucho Valdés won the award along with his father, Bebo Valdés, for the album Juntos para siempre, a duet album recorded on the Calle 54 label. The album had already received multiple awards including the Spanish Music Awards prize in the category of Jazz and a Latin Grammy in the category of Best Latin Jazz Album.

Chucho Valdés is considered one of the top living pianist and composers today, and included in the top four list of best jazz musicians in the world.

Chucho Valdes was born October 9, 1941 and is a pianist, bandleader, composer and arranger. He was born in Quivicán, Cuba. In 1972 he founded the group Irakere, one of most important Latin Jazz groups ever formed.

Chucho Valdes’ style is marked by an elevated technical skill with a great diversity of harmonic-melodic shifts and rhythms that lets him weave in and out of different styles and formats without losing his force or identity. He is truly one of the great and most gifted pianists of the modern age.
