The General Secretariat of the Continental Organization of Latin American and Caribbean of Students (OCLAE) is gathering in Havana as of Tuesday to begin preparations for the 16th Conference of Latin American and Caribbean Students.

The Secretariat will discuss the venue and date of the conference and other related issues. Once these basic guidelines are set, the national committees will begin to take shape to prepare for the Conference.

OCLAE President Yordanys Charchaval said that the goal is to create an extensive conference in the coming months founded on integration, plurality and anti-imperialism, and with a strong sense of combativeness in defense of ideas.

The OCLAE General Secretariat will also evaluate the organization’s participation and role in international and regional forums as well as in the struggle of social movements and other forces fighting for a better world.

Charchaval said that the meeting includes the participation of delegates from all of the 17 member federations of the OCLAE General Secretariat, including representatives from the Executive Secretariat that since of the foundation of the organization on August 11, 1966 has been permanently based in Havana.

The OCLAE is made up of 36 federation members from 23 countries, representing more than 110 million high school and university students from Latin America and the Caribbean.
