During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the development of bilateral ties and other matters of regional and international interest.
The Cuban vice president thanked the distinguished visitor for the long history of solidarity shown by Guyana towards Cuba, especially in Guyana’s firm stance against the US blockade. For his part, Prime Minster Samuel Hinds thanked Cuba for the cooperation efforts it has undertaken in Guyana in the health and education sector for more than three decades.
Another focal point of discussion was the devastating earthquake that shook Haiti on January 12.
Cuba and Guyana have sustained fruitful and friendly relations over the last 37 years after Guyana, Jamaica, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago all committed to establish full diplomatic relations with Cuba.
Also present at the meeting was Cuban First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Marcelino Medina.
